STANTON ENERGY RELIABILITY CENTER, LLC
Owned by W Power, LLC and operated by Wellhead, the Stanton Energy Reliability Center (SERC) began operation in July of 2020. It is a state-of-the-art hybrid energy storage system that consists of two General Electric (GE) LM6000 based EGT®s. EGT® refers to the Hybrid technology jointly developed by General Electric International, Inc. (GE) and Wellhead Power Solutions. The EGT® combines a turbine with an integrated battery storage system operated by a proprietary software system. In total, SERC provides 98 MW (nominal) of hybrid energy storage capacity. This technology provides a broad array of unique reliability benefits that neither turbines nor batteries can provide on their own.
SERC is a cutting-edge reliability resource. It has been designed to deliver superior reliability services with a minimal carbon footprint and a low emissions profile – all in an aesthetically pleasing design. The project is one of the first green-field commercial applications of the EGT® technology. Using this technology, SERC is able to combine dispatchable, operationally flexible, and efficient energy generation with state-of-the-art energy storage technology to meet the need for new local capacity and reliability services specifically in the West Los Angeles (LA) Basin local reliability area of Southern California Edison’s (SCE’s) service territory.
